Supersweet 100 Cherry Tomato Start
This is a classic, sweet, red cherry tomato that has thrived for me, both in the garden, and in containers. These are superb fresh from the garden eaten out of hand or in salads, or lightly cooked as a pizza or pasta topping. When you can eat no more of the abundant fruits (did I mention that Supersweet 100 is prolific?), try cutting them in half and drying them. Dried cherry tomatoes are so sweet, we call them “cherry raisins” and add them to winter salads for an encouraging reminder that summer will come.
Tomatoes plants MUST be protected from frost. In Ellensburg, I wait until June 1 to plant out any tomato plants (after hardening them off), and have frost blankets ready if it looks like nighttime temperatures will dip. Supersweet 100s can start producing 60 days after being planted out.
