Sungold Cherry Tomato Start
If I could only have one cherry tomato plant, it would be a Sungold. These grow vigorously in my garden, producing generous sprays of sweet, juicy, glowing orange gems. In terms of flavor, these are my absolute favorite cherry tomatoes because of their intense sweet-tart taste. I’ve never seen Sungold cherry tomatoes sold as produce in a grocery store, and I suspect that it is because the ripe fruits are so sweet and juicy that they damage easily in transit.
Tomatoes plants MUST be protected from frost. In Ellensburg, I wait until June 1 to plant out any tomato plants (after hardening them off), and have frost blankets ready if it looks like nighttime temperatures will dip. Sungold can start producing 65 days after being planted out.
