Storage Cabbage No. 4 Start
These cabbages can grow to be 4-8 lbs. They hold in the garden through mid fall without splitting, sweeten up in a mild frost, and store in cold storage exceptionally well — some years all the way until spring. They have a sweet flavor, with a fresh, slightly efflorescent tingle on the tongue. While this storage cabbage makes tasty sauerkraut, I usually reserve it for fresh eating throughout the winter. I aim to have 10 of these beauties stashed away in my cold room by the beginning of winter.
95 days. Cold hardy. Plant mid April when ground is workable. Protect seedlings from frost until established.
